Work Conditioning
Sometimes, patients successfully complete physical therapy for an injury but aren’t yet ready to return to full work capacity due to deconditioning. That’s where Work Conditioning comes in.
Work Conditioning is a structured rehabilitation program designed to improve biomechanical, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and metabolic functions through real or simulated work activities.
At Advance Physical Therapy, our Work Conditioning program runs 3-5 days per week, with 2-4 hour sessions supervised by a physical therapist. It focuses on:
✅Musculoskeletal & cardiovascular conditioning
✅ Functional body mechanics training
✅ Work pacing & symptom managementEach session includes personalized exercises tailored to the worker’s job demands, ensuring a safe and effective return to work.

Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a 4-8 hour, 1-2 day performance-based assessment that provides objective documentation of a worker's functional capacity.
Why is an FCE important?
✅Identifies musculoskeletal weaknesses & functional deficits
✅Compares physical abilities to job demands
✅Determines if a worker can safely return to work
✅Helps prevent reinjury by outlining limitationsThrough the FCE process, injured workers gain insight into their own abilities and limitations, empowering them to take a proactive role in their return-to-work journey.
At Advance Physical Therapy, all FCEs are performed using the WorkWell/Isernhagen Work Systems FCE, ensuring industry-standard evaluation and accuracy.
Mini Functional Capacity Evaluation (mFCE)
A Mini Functional Capacity Evaluation is a 1-2 hour assessment which is a scaled down version of a traditional FCE that consists of 10 or fewer tasks.
Typically, tasks tested are those the referring provider is concerned the worker may have difficulty performing.
This test can be customized based on the requests of the referring provider. A specific referral form is used for easy communication of customization needs. The focus is usually more on dynamic strength tasks rather than positional tolerance tasks as these can be reliably assessed in a shorter period of time.
Post-Offer/Pre-Employment Screen (POPES)
Post Offer Physical Assessments are designed to determine the ability of a job candidate to perform the essential functions of the job they are applying. Conditional job offers are legally withdrawn from job applicants who do not demonstrate the ability to perform tasks that are job related and of a business necessity. This protects workers from injury and protects employers from costly and unnecessary work injury claims.
Our screening assessment is designed to meet ADA guidelines to protect vulnerable workers while allowing opportunity for safe employment. Screenings can last from 30min to up to 2hrs depending on the extent of testing requested by the employer.
Body Mechanics/Injury Prevention Training
Body Mechanics/Injury Prevention Training is an on-site training program. It consists of verbal instruction, demonstration, and employee practice of proper body mechanics for various work positions and common lifting requirements. Training can be scheduled on a one-time basis, on an annual basis, or intervals for new hire cohorts.
